Raja Nong Chik, 56, serves the Malaysian public as Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister in the Malaysian Cabinet and as a senator in the Senate.

Raja Nong Chik was born in Perak Darul Ridzuan on 14th February 1953. He attended Methodist Boys’ School before continuing his education at Victoria Institution. Later he went on to study at the Royal Military College. Raja Nong Chik comes from a long line of public servants. His grandfather, Dato’ Dr Mustafa Albakri was the first Chairman of Elections Commission and Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal during Tunku Abdul Rahman’s administration. His father, Raja Dato’ Zainal Abidin Raja Tachik was a civil servant and his last posting was as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health under the administration of the second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak.

Raja Nong Chik is married to Datin Nafesah Raja Nong Chik. They are blessed with two children, Raja Farhana and Raja Hamzah.

Prior to his appointment as a Minister, Raja Nong Chik was an entrepreneur. He started his corporate career at FELCRA (Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority) in 1978. A year later, he became Manager in Corporate Planning and Finance at Kumpulan Fima Bhd. In 1982, he joined OYL Industries as Executive Director, leading to the formation of a joint venture company named Razatec Sdn Bhd which pioneered a local brand of electrical products called Acson; now recognized in Malaysia as well as internationally.

Raja Nong Chik was also the President of the Bumiputra Manufacturers’ and Service Industry Association of Malaysia. He is also a member of Malaysia Innovation Council (Majlis Inovasi Negara).

Raja Nong Chik’s interest in grassroot politics started early in his life but he focused on his business before he joined United Malays National Organization (UMNO) in his mid thirties. Raja Nong Chik became active in the Taman Tun Dr Ismail UMNO branch. In UMNO, he served from the bottom as Pemeriksa Kira Kira before being elected as Division Youth Chief, Deputy Head of the Division until his current position as Head of Lembah Pantai Division.

Raja Nong Chik holds a degree in Economics (Hons) from the University of Wales, UK and is a member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
