MORE space will be given to traders and hawkers to do business at the proposed Little India redevelopment project in Brickfields.

Some 70 Indian hawkers had been temporarily moved out pending the construction of the project, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.

“Additional space will also be given to encourage more Malay and Chinese hawkers to set up their businesses at Little India to promote racial harmony in the area,” he told Senator S.J. Usha Nandhini.

On the progress of work, Raja Nong Chik said the project is scheduled to be completed before the official visit by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in November.

“This project will transform Brickfields, with shops and stalls upgraded, while its infrastructure will be more modern and attractive.
