FEDERAL Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin has agreed to an appeal from the Kampung Kerinchi Terrace House Residents’ Association (RA) to postpone the date of a briefing on the redevelopment of their homes, which was supposed to take place today.

It was reported in StarMetro on March 11 that the residents needed more time to decide on the reconstruction of their flats.

In a press statement, Nong Chik said that the briefing was now scheduled to take place on March 27 at 10am at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) community centre in Lembah Pantai.

The RA has also agreed to a vote on the same day to pick the developer.

The decision was reached after a special meeting in Putrajaya between representatives of the ministry, the DBKL and the RA.

“I have also ordered the ministry to issue invitation letters that will include information about each developer’s offer to all the 480 flat owners as soon as possible to ensure that they receive the letters at least a week before the briefing.

“This is to ensure that they will have ample time to decide and discuss with their families and make a decision to choose the developers that they want,” Nong Chik said.

He added that on March 27, two sessions of briefings will be held, one on the relocation process and one on the development plan by the four developers that have offered their services to redevelop the area.

After the briefing, a private vote will be carried out and the votes will be counted in an open manner, followed by the announcement of the chosen developer on that day itself.

“I’m confident that the majority of the residents will be satisfied with their choice as this is being done openly and in a transparent matter.

“This clearly shows the government’s sincerity to help the poor live in comfort in this city, in line with the spirit of 1Malaysia conceptualised by our Prime Minister,” he said.
