KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 (Bernama) — For the first time, residents in the national capital will be allowed to choose a developer to rebuild their flats in line with the 1Malaysia concept, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said.

A group of 480 PKNS flat owners in Kampung Kerinchi would vote to choose their developer at about 8pm on March 12 at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Pantai, Jalan Kerinchi Kiri, Lembah Pantai, he said.

“Four companies have shown interest to carry out the project since the tender to rebuild the flats was opened in November last year,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said prior to the voting, the ministry would hold a briefing to introduce the companies and their development plans.

Counting of votes would be carried openly and that the result would be announced on the night itself.

Raja Nong Chik hoped that with the new selection process there would be no more allegation of political interference or bias in the selection of developers.

“The move shows Barisan Nasional’s sincerity in helping the poor to enjoy a a more comfortable life in the city in line with the slogan ‘1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now’ mooted by the prime minister,” he said.
